A day as a domestic God(dess)

Did the laundry, watered the garden, folded a cupboard full of clothing, vacuumed the pool, swept the driveway, washed the rats...and just cooked Bill Granger's fish & salad with lemon dressing for dinner...along with prawns wrapped in prosciutto.

All washed down with a 'Little Creatures' Pale Ale...

Wife Art Pt 2 - "Geisha Mosaic"

Continuing my serious of showcasing my wife's artwork (which she is very
backwards in coming forwards about) - here is a mahogany lamp table that
I bought for her one anniversary years back. Unfortunately, a candle
fell over on the table and left a big scorch mark on it, so my creative
wife decided to create a mosaic of a Geisha woman on it to decorate and
hide the damage.

A walk in the ice caves...

Well, not in the ice caves exactly, but a couple of weeks back I posted
about walking around in minus 20 degrees Celsius for a short while.

It was here, at one of my client sites, where they have four massive
chiller/freezer rooms for bulk product storage. Each room is
approximately the size of 3 tennis courts side by side. I had to spend some time at this site measuring the WiFi signal strength
throughout this area as we are looking to implement a PDA based picking
system in the future. Needless to say I was woefully underprepared for
the task and came dressed in shorts and a t-shirt!

The photos here are of the chiller room which is about minus 5 degrees -
I could handle being in here for a while, however the next room along is
the same size, and is at -20 degrees...That's a MINUS 20 degrees! It
was so cold in there that my phone camera fogged up and I was unable to
take a picture.

I only lasted about 2 minutes in there - I was getting dizzy spells -
must be a reaction to my blood freezing in my veins!

Wife Art Part 1 - "Sebastian & Yoda"

I am lucky enough to be married to an artistic wife - although she would
hesitate to designate herself as such. Since she is a bit reluctant to
showcase her work, I want to start showcasing some of her pieces here on
my blog.

To kick off the series, here is a painting she did recently of our
youngest lad, Sebastian who is a Star Wars fan, with his hero Yoda.
This one was completed approx. January 2009.

NB: For the record, our boys have about 16 toy light sabres between
them!

How to identify your own cup in a crowded workspace

I was at a client site this afternoon, and I noticed on the desk in
front of me, there was a paper cup belonging to one of the employees.
What caught my eye though, was the custom artwork done in pencil on this
styrofoam cup in order to give the owner instant recognition amongst a
sea of cups - it was simply beautiful! I tried to capture this in the
photos, but it didn't quite come off.

Update: This cup was drawn by the manager's teenage daughter - Heidi
Klockner. An artist in the making!

Millicent the Moth

In the past few days, our office has had a visitor, a beautiful orange
moth which I have named Millicent. Today, she was sitting on the edge
of my screen all morning, so I thought I would share her with the world!

Note: After staying on my screen for 4+ hours, she flew off 10 seconds
after the photo was taken...

For my next school project...

I first saw this back in September last year when Postler Ferguson built
a 1:1 scall engine of a Roll Royce Olympus engine (which powers the
Concorde) out of cardboard, foam and paper.

I had to revisit it when my son said he wanted to build a model jet
engine for his next school project...I wonder just how much foam and
cardboard we will need?!?!?!

Visit the site at www.postlerferguson.com/press/ for more pics and
construction shots.

A "Right" Lefty Guitarist!

Last week, when watching Eric Clapton performing (see last post), I was
astounded to notice that Doyle Bramhall II (the second lead/rhythm
guitarists in Eric's band) plays a left handed guitar, but strung the
same way as a right handed guitar!

This means that the high 'E' string, the thinnest string is at the TOP,
and the fat bass strings at the bottom. Doyle also mostly plays with
his fingers instead of using a pick.

This combination lead to some real freaky cool chord voicings, and made
his harmonic runs during solo's somewhat unusual. I assume that he
picked up a right handed guitar in his younger days, simply flipped it
around to suit his lefty hands and kept playing that way all through his
career.

I went out and bought 'Welcome', and album by Doyle Bramhall II &
Smokestack to have a listen at more of his playing. You can check out
more about him at his website: www.doylebramhall2nd.com

Just came back from a fantasticlasmic concert by Eric Clapton...He blew the crowd away with some real classics!

I am all inspired to pick up my guitar a lot more now and hammer out some blues/rock licks!

Our choice for the Archibalds

Went down to the NSW Art Gallery today for the opening of the Archibald Prize for portraiture. Saw a lot of excellent paintings which were awe inspiring, as well as a few that made us go WTF? We weren't too sure of the winning selection of Yunupingu, which whilst excellent, we found not as engaging as some of the other entries.

Our personal pick for the prize was the haunting portrait of David Helfgott by Cherry Woods...
